Maine Organic Farming / Common Ground Fair

Maine Organic Farming / Common Ground Fair

Good rich, wholesome, nutrient and vitamin loaded Maine farm vegetables, fruits, meats.

Nothing is more important than having enough of the right natural Maine food to put on the family dinner table.

To fuel those you love, hold near and dear close.

But where the food comes from. How it is grown. And the scare of factory farms that are bigger and bigger, but who knows where on the planet has many making changes.

Turning to the simple Maine lifestyle for their three times a day addiction.

Home grown food, produce and critters providing vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs, milk products, wood raised on your own Maine land is not so novel.

Not that many years ago, most of us were all Maine farmers.

Living on properties with more than just a back yard and surrounded by acreage. Spray herbicides, fungicide chemicals, additives like gases, and genetically altered seed strains make you wonder if those all add up to one big Cancer trigger.  That is why outfits like the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners group are a neat bunch of agriculturists on the right track for healthier living.

To get a taste of making some major changes in your over booked, complicated unhealthy run run run life, circle in red September 23rd through the 25th on your personal calendar. That is the weekend of the Common Ground Country Fair in Unity Maine.

Celebrating the spirit of rural and agricultural traditions of Maine.

That is the theme, basis of the Common Ground Fair, the MOFGA organization. But it is way more than natural food, how to raise it. Lots more subjects pertaining to soundness of body, mind and soul; healing; well-being and other health-related issues throughout the life span are part of the emphasis too.

The Common Ground Fair covers other topics on their three day celebration of Maine self sustaining agricultural living. Supporting a sense of well being, balance with a sustainable system of accessible and affordable health and healing options for people everywhere.

During the Fair, the emphasis is on agriculturally-based, rural communities and providing people access to information regarding their life choices give anyone attending some options for healthier, natural, more sustainable living on a Maine farm of any size. Low impact forestry practices with Maine woodlots also part of the education, workshop training.

Could you live off grid in Maine?

Not all glamorous, definitely not easy or creating a cash cow of extra left over money. But your basic needs met naturally, with your own sweat under your own power. Being independent, self sufficient and well fed, warm, safe is what every family raised in that kind of environment needs to stand on their own two feet.

To have balance, order with a simplistic life approach means living where there are food co ops, active four H programs and cooperative extension services. Other people to help you with the learning curve creates the sense of community, connection and needing each other for reliance on a day to day basis.

This Maine farming lifestyle has no place for retail therapy.

When you feel depression coming on and whip out something plastic to slide and create temporary happiness tied to more stuff you don’t really need. Self satisfaction and testing yourself to learn more off the land. Dependent on the land, more aware of the surroundings, definitely the weather. And becoming a black belt jack of all trades is the direction many are headed on as they consider relocation, retirement, moving to Maine.
